Singapore's symbolic Merlion statue started spouting water again on Wednesday (March 18) while the repair work on the wave form will continue until the end of March.
The Merlion statue was damaged by lightning during a heavy downpour on Feb.28. The incident caused a piece from the Merlion to fall onto the wave form at its base. Nobody was hurt. The Merlion did not include a lightning conductor. Relative departments are studying possible lightning protection measures for the Merlion Park to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
Previously, there were no records of lightning damaging the Merlion since its inauguration in 1972.
